Monja Gentschow (Keinemusik)
Monja Gentschow is a desartist from Berlin. That’s how she has basically conceived herself: as someone in-between a designer and an artist, and close to a disaster. Throughout her studies of Visual Communication at the Kunsthochschule Weißensee though she managed to overcome the disaster and turn it into a passion for the fusion of both sides. And that is exactly what she does for Keinemusik.
When Rampa and her were thinking about what some would label the “C.I.” of the then new founded Keinemusik, they went for an early sketch as a master from which the signature-style developed. They aimed for something unique and distinct. Something containing roughness, abstraction, yet playful and imaginative.
One of the key elements of her work is aesthetic continuition. For every Keinemusik release, the watercolour-manufacture (monifactory) is steaming up, producing countless dabs of paint and handwritten pieces that gradually are shaping to form and their final colour scheme. Out of the "finest selection" a master will be picked, putting emphasize on precise stroke width and controlled colour gradient. As interest in her artwork surfaced instantly after the first releases, Monja started to present her sketches and drawings via events that are of the same hybrid nature as the desartist herself, being exhibitions and record release parties at the same time.
Monjas work is as essential to Keinemusik as every piece of music being released. Her art breathes the same spirit, her work translates the inherent attitude of Keinemusik into its visible aesthetic aspect.
And this is to be seen, that’s for sure.
